I have new chat requests, but I cannot see or check them.

I know I have chat requests, because when I was loading the chat up in a new tab, I saw the section for "chat requests (2)" but it disappeared after one second and I can't see it again. Reloading doesn't help. Old reddit doesn't help.
Why is the bar at the top where you normally see chat requests not visible? I want to check my chat requests.
