I’m a very long time Buffy fan and for the past 6 months I’ve been watching it with my boyfriend. He’s a first time watcher and we binged s5 over 18 days and had a mini watch party for the final 3 eps, ‘Spiral’ ‘The weight of the world’ and ‘the gift.’ It’s been amazing watching him try and piece together the Dawn storyline and fascinating to hear that he couldn’t understand how Buffy could love and protect someone she didn’t actually know. Then he became protective of Dawn over the season and was stunned at how well the pieces fit together. He didn’t see the end coming and felt Buffys sacrifice was an incredible payoff of five seasons of groundwork. He thinks it should have ended there!
Is there anyone else who thinks season 5 is the peak of Buffy? To me it’s a plot and character balanced masterpiece that takes the viewer on a massive emotional journey and really earns its ending. It’s my favourite season of tv ever.
I’d love to hear your thoughts. I’ve always lurked but this is my first post here so… hey gang!
You introduced your boyfriend? Nice. It is always good to introduce new people to the show.
For me, BtVs comes in two halves:
1-3 is light and kinda fluffy
4 is a transition from childhood to adulthood (when they leave school)
5-7 Is more adult oriented.
Season 5 was a great season. I loved alp 7 seasons, so I find it hard to pick a favourite. They're all amazing for different reasons.
