How about when Willow sobbed when she found out that Faith had sex with him? How about when Willow yelled at him for making out with Cordelia.
I sometimes get the impression that Willow gets a freepass because she's a woman.
Personally, I'm not condemning either of them. People sometimes get clingy and jealous. It's what people do. People are selfish.
The art of good storytelling is creating characters who are flawed and relatable. And BtVs is about that.
All of the characters have done things that they've regretted. None of them are perfect.
However, saying that Xander is sexist is just plain wrong. Willow is a smart cookie. Do you honestly think she would've been in love with Xander for x amount of years, and be friends with him, if he was the least bit sexist?
You think Buffy would be friends with him?
You think Cordelia would've loved him? You think a Princess (Mummy Girl) would've loved him? You think Anya would been in love with him and want to marry him?
In season 6, when Anya turned back to being a Wish Demon, and tried to get Willow and Buffy to say something bad about him and finagle a wish out of them, they didn't say a bad word about him.
The fans who are calling him sexist, etc, are pretty much saying that Willow, Anya and Buffy are too stupid to notice. That, in itself, is sexist.
How about when Willow yelled at Xander for making out with Cordelia? It was a complete overreaction.
Some people talk about things like Xander was in live with Buffy for the entire season. He adored Riley.
And yes, he was always there for emotional support to Willow and Buffy. Which is why they loved him.
A lot of fans have trouble separating Xander Harris from Joss Whedon. Which is... strange. Xander is a gentleman who respects women. Joss is a dick.
Yeah. Of course, there are layers and nuances to everything.
In the case of Xander Harris. He has the utmost respect for women. In season 6, Anya even tries to get Buffy and Willow to make a wish against him.
They didn't have a bad word to say about him.
I get the impression that people use a word only because it sounds good.
What, you mean, season one where he saved Giles from being decapitated and he brought Buffy back to life?
How about Willow being obsessed over Xander? Cordelia calling Angel "Salty goodness"?
There's a certain narrative here that screams of double standards.
noun
a person who dislikes, despises, or is strongly prejudiced against women.
'a bachelor and renowned misogynist' synonyms: woman-hater, anti-feminist, male chauvinist, male supremacist, chauvinist, sexist, male chauvinist pig, MCP
And apparently, Xander is a "misogynist".
A misogynist wouldn't have two best friends who are girls.
Xander: The heart
Willow: The Mind
Buffy: The Soul.
Those three are family. They love each other.

The "slut shaming of Cordelia" was banter. Let's be honest, in terms of attitude and banter and general sarcasm, she was more than a match for him. They were kinda like the new version of Sam and Diane (Cheers).
I wouldn't really read into anything they said to one another. She suggested that he was a loser dozens of times. I think they're even.
Xander just didn't like Angel. I still remember Buffy saying that "He can do better (than Cordy"), so it's not like the girls ever backed Xander's choices of ladies.
At least you said that he's decent. There's loads of people who legit think he's an incel, a misogynist and a sexual predator. I had one person saying that he sexually assaulted Buffy in "Bewitched, bothered and bewildered". I genuinely think that people just make stuff up in their mind.
