Our budgies were always in a big cage outside, well fed, hydrated and a few things to play with and swing around on. Always chirping and playing together, hiding in their lil hidey holes and stuff. A few days ago we went outside in the morning to check on them and all but one was gone. My father managed to catch one but the others were long gone after they returned for food. We’re assuming they probably went in search of the other budgies in the area that they hear, which belongs to my neighbors. I discovered a tiny hole at the back of the cage where they likely got through. The remaining two were moved to a much smaller cage but they seem very depressed and don’t move much at all. Yesterday one passed away, I’ve never seen a bird look so sad. The remaining budgie is quiet and doesn’t do much. We moved the cage out for him to get a bit of sun and gave some extra treats. I also try talking to it to see if I could cheer it up. What can I do to help him? My dad is rebuilding a new cage but it doesn’t fix his sadness. Maybe he’s lonely too? Any advice?
