So...I read all the threads about introducing a new bird, every Google result about the same. Quarantine, separate cages, try for same age etc... Here is my story. Ava, the big blue girl is roughly 2yo, I've had her for a year and she is very bonded to me but I noticed she was pretty lonely and finally decided to get her a friend. Meet Sky, the cute little white and blue, she's only 6 months old. When I got Ava she screamed all the way home (sorry uber driver), as opposed to sky who was just thrilled by the adventure. I got her home and straight into her own cage next to Ava. Omg Ava was just soooo over excited so thank goodness for the separate cages. It was like watching a puppy jump around acting the fool. I let them talk to each other etc across the room and it was just too cute, Sky was completely taken with Ava to the point where she was just getting upset not being allowed out, so, I decided not every book is the same story, and I opened the cage. They are 2 girls, one is much older and this is the result after 2 days. Ava is completely tamed after lots of love and effort. Little sky copies her to the point that when she saw Ava was very comfortable crawling all over me she decided I must be safe and flitted over to join her on my shoulder. I was truly shocked I thought it was going to take a long time to earn her trust, but no, she steps up and has no issues even though the first day, before seeing my relationship with Ava, she would run away from me like noooo evil hooman. Sooo after getting the house call vet to give her the once over, he said, just let them do what they want with regards to cages etc, and the second night they were sleeping the night on perches across from each other in the cage, and when I woke up in the morning to wake them up (yes I'm very lucky) they were right up beside each other on the same perch grooming each other etc. Soooo tldr, I have introduced a new bird in under 48hrs they are great little friends. I did have to give Sky her own food bowl, Ava drew the line at being pushed out of the way at her own food bowl and little Sky was confused, but after putting her own bowl in there that's the one she goes to every time and there are no issues there. If anything Ava is almost like the big sister teaching her all the things, all the things... Look Sky, this is the wooden bridge and this is how I run along it, and look look, this is the millet spray, I get my face right in there so all the seeb falls all over my face, and look look this right here is the top of the cage, I like to sit here and contemplate how much I love my hooman. I'm pretty happy I made the choice to get her a friend, she's clearly much happier, and little Sky is the cutest bird I don't care what anyone says, such a little sweet pea. Anyway just thought I'd share. I have them both scheduled for another vet visit next week just to check up (it's only 100 for the house call and he does things like nail clipping etc) they have both been wormed etc and he said they are both very healthy and he was pretty confident they didn't have any nasties to justify and hard quarantine so I just went with it rather than torture them for a month. I'm glad I did, it's just too cute hanging out with them all day and playing with each other (I'm one of them, I get to stay home 24/7). I'm going to get the USB water fountain set up now, and coax them into some splash splash time 🤗
