The glaring weakness on this team this year has been the catcher position, though most fans would say third base. Cervelli hasn't hit a lick, and Diaz has struggled as well, but in more limited opportunities.

With Diaz swinging a hot stick, and Cervelli getting the Hurdle sit-out-a-series treatment last seen with Cutch a couple seasons ago ... does Hurdle stick with Diaz? it's probably in the team's best interest to go with Diaz, who would be a regular on a lot of teams.

Having two quality catchers is invaluable, and I'm certainly not giving up on Cervelli, but the idea of a trade should at least be discussed. Diaz is the future behind the dish, could Cervelli net a decent arm? A lot of contending teams - Rays and Dodgers come to mind - could use someone with Cervelli's track record.

I think the best play is to hold onto Francisco and play them equally. Cervelli's pitch framing is still a nice skill, and you're playing with fire giving up a quality backstop. it's a position of strength, and the two combined to provide the most WAR last year. but Diaz should see the majority of starts for now.
