Post Body

I read a lot more than I contribute to around here, but I wanted to give some guys encouragement that a fulfilling bromance is possible.

I met this guy a couple of years ago at my gym. He was a lot younger than me, but it was immediately clear that we were on the same level and had an easy rapport. We began hanging out together outside of the gym and immediately felt a strong connection with each other.

We discussed early in our friendship that honesty and respect were the most important things to us. We also discussed that we wouldn’t mock each other, that we would encourage and congratulate each other. We’d had those friendships before where teasing your mates was normal, but it still stung and prevented getting vulnerable.

We’ve had the best bromance since then. We hang out a few times every week. We go hiking, game, talk, play chess, get high, listen to music, go out for breakfast etc. His wife even comes sometimes!

I told him I didn’t ever have any brothers, I wasn’t close with my father and I always struggled with other boys in school. He tells me he sees me as a big brother. I shed some tears because it hit something deep I didn’t even know was there.

So now I’ve got a bro who gets me, cares about me and wants to see me succeed. And I want the same for him.

And it’s as good as I always dreamed it would be.
