Nicotine w/ a healing humerus

Recently on September 2nd I fractured my right humerus, waited until the 8th for surgery where they put in plates and screws to realign/attach my bone.

I was a heavy user of nicotine vapes and was told by my surgeon to absolutely not vape at all for it can cause infection and prevent proper healing.

From what I’ve seen online many say non-unions happen when they have vaped while recovering.

My question: since I have plates and screws am I also subjected to the same risks? I know the answer is probably yes I’m just desperate lol. Thanks in advance for your help!
