I've seen a lot of debate about how Jack died, which I've never understood because they give us the answer in the book. As you know, Ennis has the trauma of being murdered for his sexual orientation due to the thing with Earl and his father, which would lead him to imagine that Jack was murdered. I was so impressed as I read the book and realized this, the answers were always there. This makes Jack's death a little less sad but Ennis's life and trauma worse, because of his father the man lives in fear, it is reflected throughout the work and in Jack's death.
