Can I drive an unregistered car in BC got a few days?

I just bought a new car with the plan of getting it registered in Alberta. I have automobile insurance already active. Running into quite a few hiccups with registering the car in Alberta (my friend is trying to do it for me) so I might need to make a trip over to get it done and pick up my license plate.
Can I still drive the car on the street?
Ps. Yes I am an Alberta resident. Just in BC temporarily for work and returning to Alberta soon. And no I didn't pay the higher BC sales tax.
