Let's say you take your dog to the local dog park which may or may not have an area for small dogs and puppies. Now, if your dog is small or a puppy, do you take it into the "large dog" area (if possible).

And vice versa, if your dog is medium or large size, do you take it into the "small dog" area? I'm wondering about this because I've heard from my dad stories of small dogs in the large dogs area who were playing with big dogs and the playing turning into a scuffle or the big dog latching onto the scuff of the small dog.

I have a medium size dog myself and I want to double triple check what all of you might think about this? Are you in the wrong if you bring your dog into the incorrect area?
