There's now a governmental benefit fraud investigation and potential green card marriages involved. It's beautiful and juicy so I hope allowed here. Facebook threads in chronological order here:
So I spotted the hotel saying they will take down the posts soon (screenshot for your entertainment!) as they're talking to the lawyers so I will try to go through the twists and turns:
- Town House hotel in Durham (northeast UK) posts that a couple has had a wedding at their venue and pleaded to pay after the event as they were waiting to be paid their salary. The hotel agreed but the pair has disappeared and when contacted via phone, outright refused to pay
- One of the brides, Claire, posted a gratitude post on their facebook tagging many people involved in the event but carefully omitting the hotel. Durham is a small town so people start tagging their friends whose names appeared in the post
- An event planner and some vendors have appeared in the comments saying that they were contracted to do their wedding in another venue but as soon as they started asking for downpayments etc., the women turned nasty and then claimed the wedding was off due to both of their dads suddenly getting cancer. It seems the excuses varied slightly vendor to vendor (again, this is a small town of 50k people, how do they think noone's going to know each other?)
- Other private people have started piping up describing how both women have scammed them or their relatives previously. Joanne's former wife also appeared saying she was abused by Joanne
- The women go to Daily Mail (classy) with their version of the story - they claim the hotel's service was poor, that they didn't know why they were charged corkage for bringing their own booze, that they will pay etc.
- Claire starts messaging people who commented on the threads claiming she's paid part of the bill now
- The hotel shows footage from their CCTV debunking part of the couple's allegations. This leads to the hotel being contacted by the Department of Work and Pension's PIP (disability benefit) fraud team as Claire is supposedly unable to walk or work and the footage shows her moving around without issue
- More personal accusations come out. A man living in Spain messages the hotel asking for contact for the Daily Mail reporter as it seems Joanne was involved with him at the end of her marriage from pt. 4 and even came over after her divorce was finalised but flew back quite soon after she realised that marriage with him won't grant her automatic residency (she was denied on her own merit due to her claiming benefits as well). He then found out about her relationship with Claire from this whole debacle. Claire also apparently owes thousands in unpaid rent from her previous flat. The landlord also claims she received a lot of debt letters to that address in Claire's name after she evicted her.
- Someone with the last name as Claire (sister? daughter? relative?) comments that Joanne was leaving Clare due to being abused, messaged said lady a lot and left things at her house, but then suddenly came back and married her. People's stories reveal that Joanne's dad has died at least 3 times (and now has cancer, poor chap)
- Several people allege that amongst all of these marriages and relationships, Joanne has also married at least two men to grant them visas to live in the UK.
I think that's all so far!
I just wrote a comment as the post might be taken down

It seems that there are as many allegations against Claire as against Joanne! Match made in hell!
I know what you mean, I have a disability myself (autism) and I seem fully abled to people outside. But Claire apparently is claiming PIP due to not being able to walk or work (and there are resceipts to prove it). DWP fraud team wouldn't be involved if she was claiming for sth that would make her able to dance around
I mean I live in a city 10 minutes away from Durham, it's 300k people and it's impossible for me to go anywhere without bumping into an ex, a friend, or a friend of a friend so 50k is really not that big IMO
I can see that the hotel is teasing another bombshell but was asked by the solicitors not to drop it until they have proof. I'm pretty sure this is going to go to courts soon (unless the women pay under the pressure of EVERYONE knowing who they are) so it might go dormant until the local papers report on the trial
Small update: the women are harassing the hotel and the acquaintances who got involved, even showing up to people's houses to threaten them.
The hotel has requested people to come forward, they are planning a civil case against them.
Oh, and another thing... They didn't really get married! Even that was a lie!
