Is there a tradition behind this wild 80's breathing exercise video?
Post Body

I love a classic infomercial and one of my favorites from my childhood was this blown-out blond lady in a leotard doing this breathing exercise that looked like a cat throwing up. For whatever reason I remembered it a while back and looked it up, and behold, some kind soul has uploaded it to YouTube:

I tried doing it along with the blond lady because I was bored and I'll try anything, and surprisingly, I loved it! I do some yoga and breathing exercises, but this one was more intense, and I could actually feel it loosening up some of the tension I hold in my posture. I did it a bit longer, and ended up feeling quite energized and loose.

I did a bit more looking around and couldn't find any specific tradition around this type of breathing, but without really knowing what it might have been called originally it's hard to figure out. Does anyone recognize it?

Note: Not sure if I should even mention this as it feels like it might be a whole thing on its own, but the video was originally promoted for weight loss and the comments on it are full of people saying they used to do it in the eighties and it was the most effective weight loss method they'd ever tried. I don't even know what to do with that.
