Transition help from nipple shield to breast
Post Body

Our little one is just now one month old today and has been using a bottle for most feedings, though during the day I do my best to nurse him. I have to use a nipple shield to get him to actually latch, though, but when he does he will feed. I've tried to offer him just my nipple (before feeding and in the middle of feeding) and he just freaks out. My nipple can be in his mouth and he will frantically start rooting and searching. He will close his mouth a little and might give a small suck, but then frantically search again and end up crying. But as soon as I put the nipple shield on he will latch no problem. Does anyone have advice on how to transition him?

Another thing is he has a hard time settling to sleep after nursing. He will be perfectly asleep on my boob or in my arms, but crying moments after we lay him down. A pacifier will help a little, but usually he wants to feed again. Versus if we bottle feed him usually he settles pretty easily after having about 4oz.

Also what is everyone's normal nursing times? My guy will fall asleep on my boob sometimes and will have to be woken up, but it's pretty common for him to go 30 minutes on one boob. I have such a hard time telling if he is still pulling milk or just comfort sucking. I know it's not a supply issue cause I'm currently producing 6oz per breast.
