31F diagnosed with - stage 1 (but likely closer to stage 2 post mastectomy pathologyā¦apparently the tumors were difficult to measure) lobular BC. My MammaPrint recurrence risk was āUltra Lowā. Had a double mastectomy in April and just finished 4 rounds of TC chemo.
Now Iām onto the hormone therapy piece. Originally I was told 5-7 years of Tamoxifen. Post mastectomy pathology I was told they might add Lupron in the treatment for 2 years along with the Tamoxifen. I didnāt care much at the timeā¦but Iāve been on Lupron now since May and I hate it. Iām in medically induced menopause. I have gained 15-20 lbs and have no libido left to speak of. The hot flashes have eased off but were gnarly at first.
My care team just messaged me casually saying I will be continuing Lupron for 2 years and Iām SO discouraged. It was a āmaybeā last I spoke to my oncologist, and now some nurse is messaging me saying itās a definite. Iām okay with the Tamoxifen (though I havenāt started it yet), I just was expecting a conversation with my doctor before being told theyād like to keep me in menopause for 2 additional years.
Iām getting a second opinion soon, so this is really just a rant, but if anyone wants to chime in with their hormone therapy experience Iād love to hear it! Particularly with Lupron. Does the weight gain level off? Will I ever feel sexy again? Iām a friggen newlywed and my boobs are gone, I have male pattern baldness post chemo, and my estrogen is non existent. Thank god my husband is amazing but Iām getting sick of feeling this level of unattractive.
(Started taking the Lupron to protect my ovaries during chemo)
TLDR: Iām getting burnt out on treatments & wanna feel good in my body again.

My oncologist said I was in a grey area in terms of chemo treatment, but because they found more cancer than was seen on scans (and also because it was hard to measure) he said I was likely closer to stage 2, so may have a slightly higher chance of recurrence. He also mentioned because I was younger he recommended taking the more aggressive approach now to be sure it doesnāt come back down the road.
I just re-listened to our pre chemo conversation about hormone therapy and he did say his recommendation was Lupron Tamoxifen for 2 years then Tamoxifen for an additional 5 yrs. I think I may have blocked out a lot from that appointment because I was in shock learning Iād need chemoā¦
