I am 41f and just diagnosed. I am at a fairly early stage of this new journey so above is based on biopsy etc lab tests. Tumour is about 1.7-1.9cm.
Initial treatment plan will be finalised once I do the mri but at this stage I expect at a min a mastectomy and hormone therapy. And decisions on chemo / radiation will only be determined post op. My cousin who is a doctor (not my treating doctor) says since I am young they probably will do some radiation.
I’m curious in other people’s experience. How much time did ppl take off work? Or would have taken off if they were working (ie capable)
My Work is very supportive and also because I have worked there for 20 years I’ve accrued a lot of paid sick leave not to mention having a lot of annual and long service leave (australia)
I don’t really have an issue with taking more time off but I’m curious. I think that I would like to work at some point as I do enjoy the environment and the team. At least perhaps with reduced days. But i have never seen cancer upfront. No one in my family has had it. So I don’t know what is and is not realistic and would be keen to hear ppls experiences
Many thanks!
31F and I might be in the minority…I took 4 weeks off after my double mastectomy then worked 2 weeks from home after that. No radiation but 4 rounds of TC chemo. I take chemo day off and 2 days post (2nd round I took 3 days post), but my rounds are on Wednesday so I also have the weekend to recover. Works treating me no differently. Reading these comments makes me realize I’m probably doing too much….Ive been very frustrated with my employer since diagnosis. However, I had 11 weeks of sick time build up and between all the appointments, surgeries (also took 2 weeks off post lumpectomy) and chemo I’m down to about 1.5 weeks. Still need my reconstructive exchange surgery in October so I may have to use some vacation time for that 🙄
