When does the TC shed stop?!

Post Body

Iā€™m 28 days post first round of TC. I had my second round last Wednesday and I only have 2 more to goā€¦thank god. Iā€™ve been cold capping with Paxman.

I experienced the ā€œbig shedā€ days 19-24. The worst was after showering on day 23.

Iā€™m SO nervous to shower again. Iā€™d estimate Iā€™ve lost somewhere around 55-60% so far and do have some bald spots on the back and sides of my head. Iā€™m currently able to cover the thin/bald spots with a different part (low pony) and Toppiks hair fibers, but Iā€™m worried if this shed continues, I wonā€™t be able to disguise it as well.

Iā€™m currently still shedding probably at least double what I wouldā€™ve on a normal day before chemo. It seems like if I were to keep brushing I could pull most of it outā€¦but I only brush twice a day.

This is so traumatic. Iā€™m a newlywed and Iā€™ve already lost my breasts and estrogen.

TC ladies, did you continue to shed through all 4 rounds if you cold capped? I guess I wrongly assumed the ā€œbig shedā€ would be it šŸ™ƒ

Also still have the lashes and brows though some did fall out during my heavy shed period! Iā€™ve read sometimes they donā€™t fall out until after your last infusion which seems like a cruel trick.

I keep hearing ladies say if youā€™re gonna lose it youā€™re gonna lose it but then the cold capping guidelines say to only brush twice a day/only wash once a week/use a silk pillow case etc. So Iā€™m not sure whatā€™s true! Just to be safe I might do the same spray bottle trick. Itā€™ll be worth it to me if itā€™s even slightly less traumatic than pulling gobs out in the shower!

Yes! That Facebook group is amazing. Iā€™m trying to filter through TC experiences though because I know itā€™s harsher on hair than a lot of other chemos. Iā€™m slightly annoyed my oncologist was so flippant about the hair situation. When I asked he just told me to cold cap and Iā€™d be fine; I had to do my own research to figure out how harsh TC can be

The hot flashes are horrendous! Thank you so much for the response. I wish I had a crystal ball and could see what the future holds for my hair lol. Or, even better, I wish I could hibernate through this period of my life. Do you have an estimate on how much hair you lost or kept by the last round? I know everyone is different, I just like to hear everyoneā€™s experiences!
