I had a right mastectomy Apr 9th. My Surgeon told me that I can exercise 1 month post-up, and no heavy-lifting for 2-3 months post-op. So I started brisk walking last month but now I wish to do a bit more. I tried beginner level lower body exercise. Sometimes it also involves arms, like plank to downward facing dog. I did it a few times (putting major part of my weight over left arm) and did not feel any discomfort. I guess to be safe, I will return to brisk walking and wait for another month before initiating other exercise. What is your experience?
I had a double mastectomy 4/19! I started walking early on and gradually increased how far I’d go based on how I was feeling.
When I wanted a more intense workout, yet still low impact, I use my cheapo stationary bike (couple hundred bucks from Amazon, FB market place may be a good place to check too) along with the Peleton app. They have so many classes you can filter through, one being “low impact” yet I still get a great cardio exercise. I started doing more of my usual interval classes I did pre surgery recently and will eventually add small weights (some classes offer “arms” while on the bike as well).
AND one of the instructors, Leanne Hainsby, is a BC survivor so I’ve been mostly taking her classes lately 🥰
I think I pay $12 a month for the cheapest version of the app and it’s totally worth it. Though now you only get 3 cardio classes a month, which is fine for me now because it’s gorgeous out so I’ve been doing a LOT of walking. I think $25 a month gets you unlimited classes. And of course there are free YouTube stationary bike classes too!
