I’d love to hear how experiences have been surfing with expanders/implants, or while going through chemo. Currently healing from a DMX on 4/19 and start TC x4 chemo 6/5. Have only had one 50cc fill to my expanders so far. It’s gorgeous out today and I can’t wait until I get back in the water! Waiting until the 6 week mark post DMX as instructed; I don’t want to jeopardize how well I’ve been healing.

I agree the ocean heals! I’ll need to get out there in some way just for my mental health. If not surfing then swimming or body surfing.

Interesting about stomach sleeping and the lumpectomy! I had a lumpectomy and SLNB in Dec and pretty quickly went back to sleeping on my stomach after (I’m also a stomach sleeper…sleeping on my back post DMX feels so unnatural).

They did tell me at the lymphedema center that putting a wetsuit on would probably be beneficial to reduce the chance of lymphedema due to the compression. I also only had 3 removed and they told me my chances of getting it were quite low because so few were removed.

I appreciate the encouragement 🥰 Hope we both are able to get back out there soon!

It’s only 4 infusions so they didn’t think a port was necessary, I hadn’t heard about it hurting more through IV so that’s discouraging.

My care team also told me I could surf again after 6 weeks when all my post op restrictions are lifted, but they told me that with the caveat that I might not want to due to the discomfort. This was also before chemo was in the cards so I’ll have to chat to my oncologist about it.

This was the answer I was afraid of! I haven’t tried laying on my stomach yet because I’m so fresh out of surgery, but I was hopeful that I’d get there in the next month or two. I won’t have a port, just IV, so that’s the only good news.
