Hi all. I’m in a severe depression due to Letrozole following a recurrence. Prozac is prescribed, but I do not understand how it can help when the reality of a life I now hate still exists. Any thoughts?
To clarify, being a poor metabolizer of cyp2d6 doesn’t mean ssri’s won’t work for you. It means you likely would need a lower dose of an SSRI that was heavily dependent on that pathway. It has little to do with efficacy, actually
I also smoke marijuana and love it and am a poor metabolizer of cyp2d6 as well (-: there’s hope!
Ugh, I’m really sorry about that. Before getting tested and realizing that I was a poor metabolizer I had no idea about the pain medication aspect and I cannot even imagine.
Medication management is not one size fits all and this last year has opened my eyes to exactly how little prescribers / doctors actually know about the things they’re prescribing, so, I do feel you there. It can range from annoying to blatantly horrific.
I’m glad you have more information that you can use to advocate for yourself!

No it doesn’t.😕 I’ve experienced it and it definitely doesn’t come easy. I metabolize cyp2d6 poorly and used Molly for awhile during college and if it was easy to occur it truly would have happened then, lol. I didn’t run into it until getting on too high a dose of Prozac so— extended every day use.
Doctors don’t usually consider it something to worry about because of how “rare” it is. Not to discount your experience at all. Just saying that it doesn’t “come easy” at least not clinically.
