After 1 year and 9 months, from the early days of googling triple negative inflammatory breast cancer and feeling the fear, through 6 months of chemo and immunotherapy, a bilateral mastectomy where I stayed flat, 5.5 weeks of radiation, an additional 6 months of immunotherapy, and 6 months of port flushes...my last physical tie to the hospital is cut with my port removal. My next hospital follow up appt isn't until March.
I read this board through it all and vaguely recalled how the emotion comes out at the end, but I didn't expect to sob in front of an entire staff of IR docs, nurses, and techs. Lol And without family or friends to accompany me so now crying in my car. I didn't know there would be a bell today. I didn't expect any of it. So I thought I'd come here where you all get it.
I'm 37 years old. I don't know if I'll ever have reconstruction. I need to consider a partial or maybe more hysterectomy at some point due to my gene mutation, but I'm all surgeried out. Today I'm just going to be grateful. For this community answering all my questions, commiserating on the bad days and celebrating on the good days. For my health being a 180 from last year at this time. For research. For my local community getting me to appts when I was so sick. For my work being amazing and accommodating as I know not everyone is as lucky.
I'm so happy and so grateful and so furious that not everyone gets this day. I'm often worried that at some point I may need to repeat it all, but not today. For today, even if it's just today, I'm just going to be grateful. With so many complex emotions I'm also so glad I have a psychologist appt later today. lol
Thank you everyone. You all are amazing. Happy holidays.
Yess!! Congratulations βΊοΈ enjoy the holidays!
