Hi all. New to this thread. Wondering if others could share their experience on this journey. My facts are-- I am a 41 (F) diagnosed in mid Oct with invasive ductal carcinoma, stage 1. The tumor is on the bottom of my left breast. They attempted to biopsy a lymph node but because of where it was located they couldn't get the needle in. I went through a breast MRI last week--this showed that the tumor was the same size as when originally biopsied. It has not invaded the chest wall. They have me coming for a PET scan on Thurs. Blood work fine, genetic testing all negative and a chest x-ray showed clear lungs and nothing remarkable. I am ER PR and HER 2 negative. My oncoptype score was 21
I have a lumpectomy in 10 days and was told they will biopsy a lymph node then. I am doing the procedure in Maine. My oncologist here feels chemo would be beneficial, starting 4 weeks after surgery. I spoke with a Boston oncologist who seemed to think differently, that even if the lymph nodes come back positive, chemo would be a discussion but not a definite. Unsure if I go get a third opinion? I have no plans to have kids so that is not a concern. The oncologist that I see in Maine felt that based on me being a relatively young, healthy person that the chemo would be an aggressive treatment to ensure this is gone and I don't have to deal with it again.
Looking to see if anyone had a similar experience where different opinions were given and how ultimately did you come to your decision. Just want to make sure I'm taking into consideration everything I should be.
Thanks everyone.
Another newly diagnosed Mainer (30F) here! ILC with my MRI on Wed. I’m pretty happy with my team but I was also wondering if I should consider any Boston options just because I’ve heard how great they are down there. But I don’t even know how I’d go about doing that…and the commute might suck.
