How my kid learned that Rickrolling can backfire...
Post Body

For a few months my 12 y/o so thought Rickrolling was the height of hilarity. He did it every chance he got. I was largely unamused by this and basically remained neutral every time he did it to me. However, he didn't really grow out of it until he tried it on my father in law.

It was summer, when covid cases were really low, so we were visiting with my in-laws. My spouse was helping MIL with an errand so my son, FIL and I were killing time watching music videos and such. My son had this brilliant idea to Rickroll us.

My FIL didn't understand it was a joke (why would he) and when it was over, he clapped his hands and exclaimed, "That was great! Let's listen to it again." The look on my son's face lmao. He was dumbfounded.

My FIL enjoyed it so much (I guess it was sort of a forgotten classic to him) he played it again when my MIL showed back up. My son hasn't tried Rickrolling anyone since, to my knowledge.
