My MIL was just... impossible today.

So, we borrowed in-laws huge minivan so we could go to a remote pack-in campsite with the kids to get away from it all for a few days. I'm super duper grateful for it, and today we went to their place to return it and get our car, which they were borrowing.

Right as soon as we got there MIL had an attitude. There's a wildfire burning in the area and they're under evacuation alert. While I can appreciate the need to be expedient about matters, she was interchangeably barking orders and complaining about the state of the van (which was sandy and full of random stuff), while doing nothing whatsoever to help us move stuff from the van to our vehicle. She even yelled at me at one point for saying 'it's not as bad as it looks' (which it wasn't... as soon as I bagged everything up and vacuumed, which took 30 minutes, it was as good as new). I bit my tongue so hard that it bled.

Even after everything was cleaned and transferred and in order, she tore into me about this trinket she sent me in the mail that was actually for my SD. She sent me a ziploc bag full of costume jewelry, it was janky and was sent with no context. She never told me and my s/o what it was intended for. So I tossed it. Well apparently there was a brooch in there for my SD and I just had no idea. I apologized for not keeping it, but since they've sent boxes of literal trash to us before (like huge boxes full of s/o's old school projects and broken toys), I had no context that the pin was 'special'. She was so pissed. Apparently I (and only I btw, as s/o is apparently absolved of all responsibility in this matter for some reason) should hqve just known this was for SD and apparently important. Wouldn't let it go. I eventually just stopped replying after apologizing multiple times.

Saying goodbye was so awkward. My MIL can honestly be so nice but she gets such a horrible, shitty attitude sometimes. She just dominates everybody and goes after them for the smallest 'infractions' in not behaving 100% how she wants them to. I've seen her throw actual tantrums and God is it cringey. Today was awful. /endrant
