My 11 year old has an IEP for his ADHD, learning disability for written output and gifted designation. Twice a year we have meetings with his principal, teacher and education advisor to discuss changes to the plan, progress, coping and learning strategies etc.
We had the meeting yesterday and I can't get over it. His teachers had sooo many wonderful things to say about him. I have never heard so many positive things said about a person. Amazing, incredible, courageous, creative. Kind and polite to everyone. Enthusiastic, curious, capable, mature, great sense of humor, respectful, a leader and role model and according to his education advisor 'the most gifted child she has ever met'. The entire meeting they just praised the hell out of him. It was almost too much, I was speechless.
I found out his written output learning disability is basically resolved and his record was amended to show that he is at grade level, and that his teacher is working on a modified curriculum for him to better suit his needs and abilities.
A few years ago my son was really struggling in school. He had issues with conduct, workload, paying attention, making friends, and emotional regulation. He has had such a huge turnaround it's amazing. We are so proud of how far he's come. He went from barely meeting the standards expected for his grade level to surpassing it. His attitude towards school is great and he works so hard. I am the luckiest parent ever.
