I've shared this before, but I think it's such a beneficial and effortless tip, that I thought I'd share it again.
Now that the whole Netflix library and many YouTube videos have highly accurate subtitles, it's easier and less intrusive than the CC of ye olden cable TV times to flick them on. It gives kids an audiovisual 'link' between the words being spoken and how they are spelled as they're plugged into the boob tube, which improves their reading comprehension, written language skills, and vocabulary. It also allows for better comprehension of the shows they are watching, which as an adult, I really appreciate. You don't realize how much you miss in the dialogue until you turn on the subs!
