My husband is a SAHD for a 5 year old, and he homeschools her. I work full-time so between my commute and work, I’m gone from around 6am to 6pm. When I get home, I take over 100% of childcare and do the same on the weekends. I’ll also clean and do a lot of the cooking. My husband will cook dinner, usually about half the nights per week.
Every night he goes to do martial arts or lift weights. On Saturday and Sunday morning until early afternoon he goes to train with his friends. Sometimes he’ll get lunch with them after on Sunday come home around 2 or 3pm. He also goes away with them about 1 weekend per month.
Now for the summer, he was going to get our house situated for our new baby coming in august. She comes about 15 or so hours a week, and he’ll tidy up a little, do laundry and grocery shop but also uses the time for a second workout. He hasn’t gotten anything substantive done on the house in the last 2 months.
He was supposed to get a room ready for me for our homebirth and for when the baby is here to have a space away from our large dog, and on the same floor as our bathroom and he has done little towards that cause. I spent the entire day yesterday doing it while he went to breakfast with his friends, trained then went to a 3 hour lunch. I am 8 months pregnant and ended up having contractions all night, I think partially due to stress and over exertion.
Do the SAHMs get this much free time? Do you carve out time for your working partner to have free time during the week? I understand he gets burnt out from having our daughter so much but I feel like I’m entitled to at least a little time to myself. If I want to workout, I have to get up at 5am to do it before work and that’s my only “me” time where my daughter goes to bed at 8:30 and I can’t last much longer with my busy/stressful days.
