I get that Hank saw Walt as this mild mannered guy, and that the Walt Hank knew for years was the same Walt in the pilot before he became Heisenberg. But it’s pretty clear throughout the show that Hank is a great detective. He was the only one who figured out Gus’ whole operation, and he was always only a step behind Walt in figuring out who Walt was. If Hank could figure out that Gale was connected to Gus because of a flyer of Los Pollos Hermanos that he found in Gale’s notebook, then how tf did it take him so long to find out about Walt? There were so many clues:
-The meth mask found in the dessert was literally from the high school Walt taught at, and the amount of equipment missing was from Walt’s classroom.
-Walt’s second cell phone
-Hank was aware that Jesse and Walt knew each other, and Jesse’s car was found at Tuco’s house at the same time Walt just happened to be missing.
-Walt blocked Hank’s car when the DEA was conducting the operation of catching the fake Heisenberg.
-The phone call saying Marie got into a car accident while Hank was trying to get into the RV, which just happened to be right after he had called Walt and asked him if Jesse had an RV.
-Walt purposefully getting into a car accident when Hank was trying to investigate the laundromat.
-Walt falling ass back into a shit ton of money because of “gambling winnings” and Skyler’s depression and her urge to keep the kids away from Walt
-The fact that Hank knew Walt was a brilliant chemist

Goes back to one of the themes of the show -- characters underestimating Walter White's capabilities.
