Post Body

Hey guys welcome to the latest New Unit Analysis. Today we'll be having a look at Lilly Matah.

She's truly a unique unit so the analysis will be running a bit differently from usual. We'll focus more on looking at her in-depth than any unit comparisons.

Let's get started!

Disclaimer: As always, I try to keep these as objective as possible, but they're ultimately my opinion and yours may differ. Please read them with an open mind and a view to make your own decisions. :>

Tyrant Lilly Matah vs. No one

Lilly Matah's stats:

Lord: HP 5971 ATK 1920 DEF 1932 REC 1982

Max imp bonuses: HP 750 ATK 300 DEF 300 REC 300

LS: BB gauge fills upon being attacked (BB gauge fill 3-6BC/attack)

Hit count: 9 (drop check count 2/hit)

BB: BB gauge fills each turn for 3 turns, BB gauge fills upon being attacked for 3 turns (23BC to fill, BB gauge fill 3BC/turn, BB gauge fill 3-5BC/attack)

SBB: BB gauge fills each turn for 3 turns, BB gauge fills upon being attacked for 3 turns, increase to BC drop rate for 3 turns (48BC to fill, BB gauge fill 3BC/turn, BB gauge fill 3-6BC/attack, BC drop rate 20%)

  • No comparisons today. I didn't think it was appropriate for Lilly Matah to be compared to any unit currently available in Global (or in fact in JPBF). While her individual buffs are replicated by a few units, no unit really fits into the same niche that she does so the comparisons would be pretty much worthless.

Lilly Matah: Indepth Look

  • Her stats are solid all round. She's just shy of breaking 6k HP which is slightly unfortunate, but hardly anything to be concerned about and her ATK/DEF/REC are all very good indeed.

  • ATK is probably her least relevant stat so it's probably unnecessarily high (not that that's a bad thing), but given her non-offensive BB/SBB, she won't really be making use of it at all aside from occasional pot shots with her normal attack.

  • Her imp bonuses are average all round. No complaints or praise for her.

  • Her normal attack is average. There's nothing particularly special about it at 18 total drop checks.

  • Lilly Matah is all about BB gauge maintenance. This is readily apparent from the numerous BB gauge manipulating effects on her LS, BB and SBB.

  • She has every single BB gauge manipulating buff in the game under her belt except a BB-gauge insta-fill and that rare buff that gives you a chance to fill your BB-gauge when attacking

  • While each individual buff may not seem all that impressive on its own, and indeed, from experience with other units boasting similar buffs, they're not. Together, they result in impressive BB maintenance power.

  • For those of you daunted by the sheer amount of support fodder you're going to need to get her to SBB10, the most important threshold for you to hit is SBB2 where her SBB drops in BC cost by 5BC. After that, her buffs do get stronger so you'll want to get her to SBB10 eventually, but SBB2 definitely gives you the most bang for your buck.

  • It's important to remember that Lilly Matah's specialty is not infinite SBB maintenance. While her buffs are obviously beneficial to BB-spam teams, her leader skill is not suited for maintaining SBBs, and her lack of an actual attack means her individual BC generation is basically non-existant. Uda, Zelnite, Elza and all the usual BB-spam suspects are the units/leaders you want to stick with for infinite SBB spam.

  • However the weakness of this style of play is that it doesn't really fly with single target bosses. In fact, with your regular BB-spam set-up, even maintaining regular BB becomes pretty inconsistent. This is where Lilly Matah truly shines.

  • For maintaining your BBs on important turns against a single target, there is no one more efficient than Lilly Matah, particularly in the leader position. This makes Lilly Matah a premiere leader for Trials and single target Raid battles where BC generation is often a problem even for the most optimal of BB-spam teams.

  • Lilly Matah's LS gives you 3-6BC upon being attacked, and this stacks with her SBB to give you a total of 6-12BC from being targetted once. Combine that with her normal BB-gauge fill of 3BC/turn and you automatically gain 9-15BC from being targetted once in a turn, not even factoring in your regular BC generation from attacks (which gets boosted by her BC drop rate buff as well)

  • This is all passive generation as well, meaning you can generate BC while guarding which can be important in clutch situations.

  • You're not going to be maintaining SBBs every turn against single targets with Lilly Matah, that's an unrealistic expectation, but you can expect pretty much bang on consistent BB maintenance with a good set up against bosses which is very important.

  • Often times the difference between life and certain death is having your healer or your damage mitigator's BB up at the right time and Lilly Matah gives you the best consistency at achieving this.

  • She's one of the most important end-game content units you can have. While it isn't essential to have her and you can certainly make set ups that can handle Raid Challenge 3, EX-dungeons or Maxwell/Cardes without her, she certainly makes things a lot simpler and more efficient for a lot of parties.

  • If you really want to make BB maintenance a priority, you can pair her up with a units like Zelnite, Kuhla or Lodin who boast instant BB gauge filling abilities, allowing you to have even more control over when you have your BBs up since that's the one real BB gauge manipulation power she lacks - she can't influence BBs mid turn (without the Melchio glitch)

  • Lilly Matah is a very self-sufficient unit, she doesn't require any support in order to perform well at her role and she benefits pretty much everyone. The units that benefit the most from her abilities are probably damage mitigators (Oulu, Darvanshel, Narza) and Healers (Tree, Elimo, Ulkina, Tia etc.) since it's most vital to have those BBs up when you need them in tough fights. But everyone appreciates help in maintaining their BBs.

  • Some feel good, practical points for those of you who don't have your own Lilly Matah though. First of all, she's somewhat of a specialty unit. She's not someone I'd recommend you use for general purpose questing or the like. It just so happens that her specialty is high-end content so she's very valuable, but for 90% of the game, she's far from necessary and even suboptimal since she'll probably just slow your party down.

  • In addition, even in battles that would benefit from her, there are very few circumstances that you would require more than one of her, and she's often used in the Leader position for best results so you can easily just make some Lilly Matah friends and be just as effective as if you owned your own. Our Looking for Friends thread is a great place to find some Lilly Matah friends yourself.

  • Her main use is definitely BB gauge sustain in low BC generation fights but she can do interesting things in the Arena too.

  • Notably, she's the only unit in the game capable of allowing a Turn 1 BB in the arena due to her leader skill allowing you to fill on defensive turns. Combine her with spheres like the King's Crown and low BB fill cost units (Farlon, Lira, Ophelia, Uda, Hogar, even Ciara would probably do) and it is feasible that you can fill your BB-gauges after your opponent's attacking round.

  • This has... little practical reason except for trolling people in the arena since it's only possible on defensive teams, is probably inconsistent even with Lilly Matah and offers no benefit to you at all since defensive wins mean nothing but I thought I'd mention it because it's something only she offers. You may consider avoiding Lilly Matah leads in the Arena.

  • Lilly Matah is a fantastic unit. I don't think she's a particularly good choice in general purpose teams, but her specialty area makes her a phenomenally good unit for end-game content, definitely a valuable pull if you have her.

  • In terms of future prospects, there's not a unit in existence as of now that can acceptably fit into Lilly Matah's niche in Global nor is there one in JPBF. She's truly quite unique.

  • Congratulations if you have one!

Typing Discussion

  • As always, the most important thing to note here is that if typing is the only thing holding you back from using a unit, you should definitely just go ahead and use them. Please don't discard units because their typing isn't 'optimal'.

  • Anima's probably her best type. It's true that she's not going to be utilising her preserved ATK stat, but Anima's extra HP in general outclasses Guardian defensively because of the way DEF scales.

  • Guardian is still nice for her though since the ATK drop isn't a large penalty in a unit like Lilly Matah who doesn't have a use for it outside of pot shots with her normal attacks between maintaining her SBB and the extra bulk helps because having Lilly Matah die can ruin runs.

  • Lord third since it doesn't compromise her bulk.

  • I'd probably put Breaker and Oracle about on par. Breaker is probably slightly better since the HP drop from Oracle hurts more than the DEF drop from Breaker and Lilly Matah can occasionally swing her little wand thing around during battles so the extra ATK isn't a total waste while the extra REC probably is. Any type is viable though.

  • Worst comes to worst, use a friend's Lilly Matah if you're unsatisfied.

That's it guys, hope you enjoyed the read!
