I have a desktop and a laptop. My monitor for my desktop is actually a tv, which means I often work on my laptop and use my desktop as a tv. I've experimented with controlling the desktop with VNC and while that works it's just too clunky to get in the habit of using. It would be nice, and likely useful for use cases beyond mine, to be able to push a tab over to another device and for it to automatically become the displayed tab. I'm not just talking about transfering the url over. I mean serializing the state of the tab and transferring it over in the same state entirely including the play state of videos and content that has been loaded in over ajax since the initial page load.
It would give the same ability as casting but better and on all device types both as senders and receivers, but would also relinquish the need for the "sending" device to stay on the network for the "cast" content to stay up. Plus the "cast" content would be interactive.. a web page. It would be useful for when you are looking at something on your phone and you realize you want to look at it later in more detail, just push it over to your desktop.
Of course there are some security implications. These devices would need to be able to authenticate that they are a valid source of a push tab.
For that I have a second idea that could balloon into something that could enable a lot of browser interoperation. Give each instance of a brave browser a private key, and let each browser have a list of "trusted peers" that can be given certain permissions.
But if any of you have a better solution for me to be able to play youtube in the background and be able to give it the next video without getting up I'm all ears.
