As per the title, Mistborn Era 1... Well, it kinda sucked. The characters are among Brandon's weakest. Vin & Elend are boring. Which is too bad. Vin had some excellent potential at the end of Book 1. Kelsier is a pompous ass and he doesn't merit any follow up... Like seriously.. What a boring, generic character. He's definitely my most hated Sanderson character. (yup, F*#$ Moash, but at least he's a good "character". Kelsier is what a 90's Era edgy teen imagines is cool. I'd be ok with him being completely forgotten. Sazed is as bland as he could possibly be and so, so boring. I'm missing the depth of characters like Hrathen, which is unfortunate I know. I hate that Brandon used probably his best developed villain (until Moash, and moreso Leshwi) in a book that is unlikely to get a direct Sequel.
I digress. Back to Mistborn. I'm considering reading Era 2. Does the pacing and story improve in Era 2? I'm debating whether to engage in the follow up series at all. I try to stay reasonably aware of the 'Cosmere' at large. I don't need to see every Marvel movie perse, but I do want to not miss the highpoints.
At the same time, I like a good read. If it doesn't have any Cosmere ties, fine by me. I just want more robust characters than the disappointing ones I found in Era 1.
My criticism of this Era
