So I've been reading a lot of BL manhwa recently, and have come across some tearly heartbreaking manhwa where the uke is rejected by and feels unrequied love for a man character. Sometimes it's his future seme, and others its simply someone who uses the uke to get something he wants or otherwise enjoys tormenting him.
Whilst I do not condone such behaviour in real life, I find that reading it in these manhwa/manga is not only cathartic but also provides a kind of release to my emotions.
I am quite literally obsessed wih these stories, though they seem to be few and far between.
Am I alone in liking these kinds of plots or do others here like them, too?
What are some of your favourite tropes in these, and which stories best showed them, in your opinion?
Mine is the trope of the uke being lead along like a puppy, only to be betrayed by a seme when he realises the seme has a girlfiend or is otherwise leaving him for a girl the 'I'll never be good enough' scene, as I call it in my head.
I think Black Lotus did that really well (but we don't talk about it past chapter 45. Haha.) and so did Scents of Seasons.
But yeah! I'd love to hear your thoughts on this sub genre of BL manga/manhwa and whether or not it's cathartic, r simply just depressing and whether nor not there should be more or less of these stories, as well as which ones are the pinnacle of the genre due to characterisation and the utilisation of tropes.
