Box Office Pro vs r/BoxOffice Competition: "The Gentlemen"
Post Body

Welcome one and all to the latest Box Office Pro vs r/BoxOffice competition! This week, we've decided to look at the upcoming film "The Gentlemen".

  • What will its 3-day opening weekend be?
  • How about its domestic total?
  • And its worldwide total?

It's appreciated that you do all three, but it's not required.

As always, I'm going to be averaging out the top 3 voted answers and treating that as our official Reddit estimate. So I encourage you to upvote and downvote answers based on which ones you agree with. Additionally, if you have any ideas for tweaks to the format, you are welcome to suggest them, and I will take them into consideration.

Last week, we predicted "Bad Boys for Life", arriving at the following consensus figures based on the 3 predictions with the most total points:

  • $45.3 million domestic OW
  • $128.3 million domestic total
  • $333.3 million worldwide total

For comparison, Box Office Pro is calling for a $25 million domestic OW and a $65 million domestic total, using their forecast's middle ground. That would add up to approximately $168.8 million worldwide, using our consensus 38/62 domestic/international split.

Also notable:

  • BOP expects "Dolittle" to open substantially higher than "Bad Boys for Life" - $40 million is their median prediction for the former's OW. On the other hand, based on the figures we arrived at and the conversation I've seen, I would guess we're generally calling for a much lower opening for "Dolittle".
  • Participation last week was very poor relative to the expected scale, with just five predictions, only one of which finished (barely) above karma-neutral. Hopefully moving this week's edition earlier in the day when it will get more visibility will help.
