Charlie's Angels and Ocean's 8 are both female-oriented reboots of early 2000s high-concept ensemble-comedies with comparable openings. Both movies also saw substantial downgrades in terms of starpower both in front of and, for Ocean's 8, behind the camera, and had similar mixed/positive reviews.

Why, then, did Ocean's 8 open domestically to almost five times as much as Charlie's Angels, and finish with what will likely be about four times the latter's worldwide gross? Ocean's 8 did retain some starpower with Sandra Bullock in the lead role, and had a more pedigreed director, but that can't be the whole explanation. I have some ideas about what other factors played a role, but I'm curious to hear what you think caused the gap.
