Welcome one and all to the latest Box Office Pro vs r/BoxOffice competition! This week, we will look at the upcoming film "The Grudge".
- What will its 3-day opening weekend be?
- How about its domestic total?
- And its worldwide total?
It's appreciated that you do all three, but it's not required.
As always, I'm going to be averaging out the top 3 voted answers and treating that as our official Reddit estimate. So I encourage you to upvote and downvote answers based on which ones you agree with. Additionally, if you have any ideas for tweaks to the format, you are welcome to suggest them, and I will take them into consideration.
Last week, we predicted "Little Women", arriving at the following consensus figures based on the 3 predictions with the most total points:
- $27.5 million domestic OW
- $133.3 million domestic total
- $278.3 million worldwide total
For comparison, Box Office Pro is calling for a $20 million domestic OW and a $100 million domestic total, using their forecast's middle ground. That would add up to approximately $209 million worldwide, using our consensus 48/52 domestic/international split.
Some miscellaneous trivia about last week's results:
- "Little Women" exists in a "Knives Out" space where r/BoxOffice is highly optimistic about its potential, seemingly due to many members personally looking forward to it. Only one prediction called for $100 million or less domestically, and it finished as the only points-negative prediction out of ten in total.
- I would argue, though, that it's part of the fun to gauge how wrong (or sometimes, miraculously, right) we wind up being with our predictions. I know I've been guilty of a biased highballing before, most recently with "Doctor Sleep". I wound up regretting my prediction about 5 minutes afterwards, and now that we have early international results, I look like a clown.
