Hello, all! With /u/Marcie_Childs's approval, I will be the new host of the Box Office Pro vs. r/boxoffice series. This week, we're looking at the upcoming film "Joker". This is a special Tuesday edition to allow us to predict this movie; we'll be returning to our regularly scheduled Sundays starting next week.
- What will its 3-day opening weekend be?
- How about its domestic total?
- And its worldwide total?
It's appreciated that you do all three, but it's not required.
Just like Marcie, I'm going to be averaging out the top 3 voted answers and treating that as our official Reddit estimate. So I encourage you to upvote and downvote answers based on which ones you agree with. However, if you have any ideas for tweaks to the format, I encourage you to suggest them, and I will take them into consideration.
Last time, we predicted "It Chapter Two", arriving at the following consensus figures based on the 3 predictions with the most total points:
- $97 million domestic OW
- $261.7 million domestic total
- $605.7 million worldwide total
For comparison, Box Office Pro has called for a $136 million domestic OW and a $305 million domestic total since its first Long-Range Forecast for this movie. That would add up to approximately $706 million worldwide, using our consensus 43.2/56.8 domestic/international split.
Some miscellaneous trivia about last time's results:
- Only 4/23 predictions called for "It Chapter Two" to open higher domestically than BOP's forecast, while just 3/23 called for it to have worse legs than BOP's forecast.
- The predictions as a whole demonstrated substantial variety, of which the three with the most points were all on the conservative end, and very similar to each other in terms of both total predictions in particular.
- In fact, only two other predictions called for lower figures for at least two of its domestic OW, domestic total, and worldwide total.
- Upvotes clustered around Frosted_MiniYeets' prediction, which tripled the #2 prediction in terms of points.
- stravis0883 called for an identical domestic finish to BOP's current prediction for "It Chapter Two", while expecting it to open just $4 million higher.
