Runaway Bride reunited the Pretty Woman team of Garry Marshall, Richard Gere, and most importantly Julia Roberts, allowing it to open to $35.1 million domestically, for a rom-com record at the time. It proceeded to pull off a 4.34x multiple to finish with $152.3 million domestically, and made another $157.2 million elsewhere for a $309.5 million finish. Against a $70 million budget, that wasn't a very financially notable result; however, it was good enough to put the movie at ninth in 1999's domestic top ten, today an unimaginable feat for a pure rom-com. It still remains the ninth highest grossing movie of its genre domestically, whether you adjust for inflation or not. Most particularly, it thrived alongside fellow Julia Roberts rom-com Notting Hill, released barely two months earlier in North America.
