Too late to be a botanist?

Post Body

I don't know if this is the right subreddit for this post (let me know!).

I've had an interest in the field of botany but I was scared of for various reasons, e.g. scared of organic chem and other difficult classes, worried about career prospects with just a BS in the field, and an honest interest in the degree that I actually received (psychology).

Fast forward like 8 years after my bachelors, in a job I'm not too excited about my current job or future thereof, etc. And I've been thinking and researching about botany for quite some time. Botany is now more of a passion I want to pursue than just an interest. I would love both lab research and field work.

My question is whether its too late for me. I'm a little intimidated to go back to school while still paying my undergrad loans. Are there any botany technician or assistant positions that would be more feasible? Is that even a thing? Or is it only worth it to get at least a bachelor's to enter the field?

And help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
