I'm going to preface my post by saying I love the physicality of the NBA this year. Although it caused a lot of stars to start slow, it definitely led to a much more fun game to watch, especially seeing how the better players adjusted their games as the season progressed.
I also like the move away from rewarding offensive players with fouls when they go out of their way to draw contact. Not a coincidence we see James Harden and Trae Young struggle with scoring, especially in the playoffs.
The one issue I see that needs to be addressed for next year, is the instance where the offensive player literally knocks the defensive player on his ass or pushes him too far back with force, only to step by him and score on a wide open hoop. How many times did Giannis employ that against Grant and others tonight? How is the defender supposed to compensate when he's looking up at the players from the ground? Or how is the defender supposed to counter, when any additional movement of their body or arms would result in a foul plus the basket? Something needs to change in the rule books to focus on that type of play specifically.
If Tatum and others get the call for using their shoulder or arm to create space, how can knocking a guy down or half way across the paint not offer the same advantage?
Any ideas on something specific they can change or is it simply a matter of a general agreement from officials to call the offensive foul more in that situation?
