Why do drivers pay more attention to parking in front of fire hydrants than respecting crosswalks for pedestrians?

Not saying the former isn’t important. It really is. But we seem to have a really bad habit of making it hard to…cross the street.
Also, car accidents 10x more common than house fires..?
