I lost my job two months ago. I was blindsided by it. I was just given a bonus not long before. About the bonus the boss had said: "We're like a family here and when you do a great job for us we like to do a great job for you."
I took out a car loan right before being fired cause it was an hour trip to work, one way, and the vehicle I was driving is old and gets like 13mpg. I was spending about $170 a week in gas. So, I traded a 30 year old vehicle for a 10 year old one. 13mpgs for 42. And $680 ($170 a week for gas) in overhead a month for $450 ($250 car payment $50 a week in gas). Ugh. I feel like such a fool. I felt really comfortable at that job; felt reassured in it.
My last check went for rent. I'm a month behind there. I'm two months behind on the car payment (paid the first month and then lost the job) and a month behind on everything else (insurance, electric, water, internet, phone).
My wife and I have two little ones and no friends or family that live nearby. Definitely can't afford daycare. So, only one of us can work at this time. We're both applying to places though. She got accepted into a paid CNA training program (which is great since she's wanted to get into the medical field) which was supposed to start at the beginning of the month, but they pushed it back to May. In the meantime, many interviews which has drained the gas tank.
I was able to get TANF for April, but it doesn't get you very far.
