Mayhem weapon scaling question

About to start my first run through the Mad Moxxi DLC. But before I did any DLC I ran through the main campaign on TVHM with increasing mayhem mode increases (starting on 1 and ended the campaign on 4). Now while messing around in mayhem 6 I'm not getting weapons that are stronger. My mayhem 4 Hellshock weapon is the weapon of choice to do substantial damage.
What am I missing with regards to weapon scaling and mayhem difficulty increases?
