I play 5 a side with some guys from my work but I usually end up on the side with players who attack well but never get back meaning I get caught as the sole defender in a 3 on 1 situation. 4/5 times this means a garanteed shot on goal for the attacking team.

What i try to do each time is keep a safe distance between the player on the ball and try to capitalise on any bad touches. sometimes this means i get the ball but most of the time they are perfect on the ball, leaving me being piggy in the middle as they pass around me and get a shot off.

so what would you recomend to help me get better as a defender. the obvious answer is to have my team get back but they couldnt care less about defending so im stuck by myself.
