What are some classics that are ACTUALLY great? Really rewarding to read and not a huge chore for no payoff?

Moby Dick is a great example considered not worth it (a lot of people skip the endless descriptions of whales)
Would love to get people’s takes on their favorite or what they would recommend!
PS - Count of Monte Cristo and Picture of Dorian Gray are on my list already :)
