Just finished Lonesome Dove, definitely a good heavier read on my opinion. I heard some good things so I got it but was turned away a bit by the length. However once I began reading I thoroughly enjoyed it and struggled to put it down. One thing that struck me was how many times a character would have a moment of doubt and clarity, saying "What am I doing? Why did I leave ____? I should turn back, go to so and so and live out my days happily". But they don't, and then they meet their end. It happened so many times that I knew Gus was going to die when he began asking himself those type of questions, sure enough he did. It happened to Sean O'Brian, Roscoe, Big Zwey, Jake Spoon, Deets, and probably some others I'm forgetting. Each had a moment when they realized they were doing something that was foolish and almost saved themselves, but didn't. Just one take I had, loved the book.
