I started A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving back in October/November, but due to coursework at my University, I didn't have the time to read the last three chapters. Last weekend, I finally committed to finishing it, even if I could only read it on the weekends. Today, I accomplished that task.
I'm curious, what are your opinions of this novel? For me, it has reserved it spot as a Top Five novel in my collection. It has heavy religious themes of faith and doubt which some readers may not enjoy, but just as I find C.S. Lewis's religious works (One of which is mentioned in Irving's!) inspirational, I found this struggle to be wonderful. I'm glad to have read it, and recommend it to everyone. As long as they're okay with constantly crying. No lie. But there are also hilarious parts. It's all funny. It's all depressing.
What are your thoughts on Irving's bildungsroman, and what is your favorite novel in the genre?
Edit: added novel's title/author and fixed poor grammar.
