And I'm guessing we'll get the best answers from old redditors on this one.
Theres been huge sensations which are still read today (Hunger Games, White Teeth, The Road, Harry Potter).
But every so often, theres a book that was everywhere for a year or two - and now you see nobody reading and barely a book shop stocking it.
For me its Stieg Larsson's Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. Absolutely a top seller for years only for it to fade from every conversation about books and every front of house of a book shop (second hand shops are quite filled with it though). And this all happened in a mere 20 years.
The thing about the Simpsons is just how huge it was - it wasn't a niche YA thing, it was massive and universal, and people who didn't watch the show would still pick up the references.
But yeah, probably not long until "you know nothing Jon Snow" becomes an obscure reference to an old show.
I think we pretty much all gave up on the Simpsons about 20 years ago tbh
It was very much "intro to critical analysis of the Bible, written by someone who does not know very much about the Bible" - it's critiquing some myths but uncritically promulgating new ones instead. I do like this free Yale lecture series as a good intro to critical analysis of the Bible, if people want something more accurate.

It's probably been a decade since you could get away with Simpsons references
