Split my tongue Wednesday. Healing going well but afraid of regrowth

Got my tongue split Wednesday and today I noticed my tongue not as far back as before. There is stitches but I’m afraid it will regrow bc it’s feels like it’s sticking together. Shall I put some gauze to keep em seperate? Any advice will help
