The nature of backups - Star Trek transporter reference?

Post Body

Some Star Trek canon discusses the nature of transporters and how you die every time you’re transported, but copied and “rebuilt” at your destination.

Reminds me of Bobs being uploaded for backup. A neat use of this in writing could be:

“I sat outside the ort cloud, building a relay and the necessary tools and busters just in case I ran into trouble.

I was almost ready to do a quick turn around the local sun and investigate the mega structure. I handed my coffee to Jeeves, and sent an upload to the archive -

I came online, at the archive. Oh. What the hell?

Quick date check before pinging Bill, 30 years had passed.”
