Cracked transom!

How bad is this? 14' Sea nymph tinner, rated for a 15hp, has a 9.9hp and I noticed a crack in the top of the transom after winter storage at a marina. Any ideas what would cause this? Something about storage, or is this more likely caused by torque/load on the transom from the engine?
